Learning Expereince

Delivered weekly to a cohort of no more than 18 students, teaching is structured, skills-based and practice-focused, combining:

  • Live tutor-led teaching via Zoom

  • Skills practice and live-recorded session work

  • Case formulation and case review

  • Regular tutorials, supervision groups and peer learning

You'll build a clinical portfolio as you go — including a client log, formulation of client problems, and tutor-assessed observations — alongside a minimum of 30 hours of supervised CBT client work.

You'll also complete a mini research project, developing your ability to critically engage with CBT research and apply it to practice, and an externally assessed case review that draws together your learning across the course.

Placement & Group Supervision

Placement
Arranging your own placement or practice setting is your responsibility as a student, as our cohorts are drawn from across the UK. Within this placement, you'll need to complete a minimum of 30 formally contracted hours of client work with at least 3 clients (aged 16 or over), applying the CBT model under clinical supervision. To support you in securing a placement, The Wellbeing Academy provides an introductory letter outlining the course, its teaching, and what a placement would involve. There is no personal therapy requirement for this qualification.

Group Supervision
Group supervision is provided by Marion throughout the course. As a benchmark, BACP guidelines for trainees, you must receive a minimum of 1½ hours of supervision per month. Supervision is tracked formally as part of your portfolio, using a supervision log and supervisor report.

Assessment & Coursework

Assessment is Pass/Fail (Proficient/Not Proficient) rather than graded. To achieve the qualification, you must be assessed as Proficient in both your internal and external assessment.

Internal assessment — your portfolio
Across the course, you'll build a portfolio evidencing 7 (see above). Coursework falls into three types — written/theory work, practical/skills work, and client-work-based evidence — submitted digitally as an e-portfolio and including:

  • A candidate self-review, completed and updated throughout the course against each learning outcome

  • A client log and formulation of client problems

  • Tutor-assessed observations and peer/tutor feedback

  • Supervision log and supervisor report

  • A mini research project, developing your ability to engage critically with CBT research and apply it to practice

External assessment
You'll complete an externally assessed written case review of 3,000–3,500 words, drawing together your theoretical understanding and client work into a single piece of assessed writing marked.

Attendance
A minimum of 90% attendance is required across the course to meet the qualification's learning outcomes.
